Mums and Dads take their children to work with them at Sizewell B

Sizewell B employees brought their children to work with them for the day to show them what they do at the power station.

Over 70 children took part in the event and spent half a day shadowing their parents and the rest of the time on a tour of the power station taking in impressive sights such as the turbine hall where power is generated for over 2million homes and the large drum screens that filter the sea water before it enters the power station.

It is hoped that the ‘bring your children to work’ initiative will also spark up an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths and encourage more people to think about a career in the energy industry.

Jo Andrews, a Data Coordinator at Sizewell B brought her two daughters to the power station.  Jo said: “My girls loved their visit to Sizewell B in fact they wanted to come back to work with me today too!”

Paul Morton, Sizewell B station director said:  “It was great to see so many children looking around the power station with their parents.  I am sure many found it enlightening to see just what their mum and dad do when they are at school.”

Sizewell B has over 530 employees and 250 contractors and is worth £40million each year to the local economy.  The Sizewell visitor centre has welcome over 30,000 visitors since it reopened in 2012 and people can book a tour of the power station by emailing sizewellbtours@edf-energy.com
